This article sums up why using coconut oil for your skin and hair is so beneficial:

“Why coconut oil is better than the average face moisturizer. And hair serum. And body lotion: “Commercial moisturizers contain lots of water, which makes you feel like your skin is being moisturized. But as soon as the water dries, your skin becomes dry again. Also, many commercial brands of moisturizers contain petroleum-based ingredients that can suffocate the skin. In contrast, coconut oil provides deep and real moisture. It helps strengthen underlying tissues and helps remove excessive dead cell on the skin’s surface that makes your skin rough and flaky in texture. It also great for shine and as a natural moisturizer for your hair.”    Via Huffington Post

The Dr. Oz show had this to say about coconut oil:

“Is coconut oil good for my skin and hair?

We tell our patients that from the time of infancy through the senior years,  coconut oil is a wonderful moisturizer for skin and hair. It has good amounts of the antioxidant vitamin E, which is very protective. If you are using on the skin regularly, it is best to try to find an organic coconut oil, to reduce the absorption of toxins and pesticides through your skin. We even recommend new parents massage infants with coconut oil after a bath. One 2005 study of 120 babies showed that a coconut oil massage is safe and has health benefits.” Via Dr. Oz show

This is exactly why coconut oil is the number 1 ingredient in Succulent Skin Serum. This serum is entirely based on coconut oil and has the added benefits of other healing oils like lavender and olive oil. If you want to see beautiful skin, just use Succulent Skin Serum after each bath/shower! View Succulent Skin Serum at JuniperDesert.com

Every day we hear about the next new miracle for hair.  Many oils and additives promise to make your hair stronger, thicker, and shinier.  In reality, most of these products are a big disappointment, doing nothing for your hair except subjecting it to more pointless treatment.  Coconut oil for hair breaks this pattern of failure and naturally helps make hair smooth, thick, and strong.

Virigin coconut oil for hair is truly a natural wonder that makes hair healthier in a number of ways.  Used as a prewash or as a conditioner, coconut oil in hair stimulates the scalp, helping to prevent dandruff and aid in hair growth. Coconut oil is also touted by some as a natural head lice treatment.  When combined with anise oil, it is quite effective in killing the adult lice and making nit removal easy and painless.

Unlike other natural oils, coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft, giving it strength and making it appear fuller.  It also helps prevent protein loss in the hair shaft, something other hair products cannot do. This oil can also help repair damaged hair and prevent the frizzies.  Although it works best on dry hair, its restorative properties are good for any hair type, even thinning and graying hair.  For hair that is oily, though, it works best as a prewash, helping stop hair breakage and slowing fall out.

Choosing a coconut oil hair treatment is pretty simple.  Just look for virgin coconut oil or products containing it, and use it according to instructions.  Obviously, you want to use a high concentration of the oil to obtain the best results, so check the labels to see how much of the oil is in the product. Manufacturer packaging can be misleading, so be careful.  Do choose products that are natural and avoid those with artificial additives.  Mother Nature really does know best when it comes to your hair.

Men and women both spend lots of time and money searching for miracle hair potions.  Usually, these treatments are prohibitively expensive and major disappointments, making little or no improvement to your hair quality.  Coconut oil hair treatments do make measurable, positive changes to your scalp and hair shaft, giving you fuller, smoother hair and a healthier skin.  Coconut oil also has many health benefits when taken internally in a different form.  The more we learn about this oil, the more it appears to be the “magic” oil we’ve all wanted.

Coconut oil has been used as a beauty product for thousands of years.  However, it is only recently that the western world discovered the health and beauty benefits of this substance.  Women who use coconut oil for skin will have healthy, glowing skin that is free of acne.

Why is Coconut Oil Good for the Skin?

The reason that this oil is so healthy is that it contains 50% lauric acid.  Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid which contains fiber, vitamins, minerals and nutrients.  The only other food this acid is found in is human breast milk.  The lauric acid content in this oil nourishes the body and helps it fight off illnesses.  It also makes the skin and hair look fantastic.

How do Women Use This Oil on Their Skin and Hair?

Many women use coconut oil as a lotion.  As this oil is relatively affordable, consumers will not have to spend hundreds of dollars on expensive skin creams.  It is important to be aware that this oil solidifies when it is below 75 degrees.  Listed below are some tips that will make the oil malleable enough to rub on the skin.

-  It is easier to apply oil after having a shower as wet skin will help melt the oil.

-  Place the bottle of oil in a bowl of hot water.

-  Squeeze some oil into the hands and rub them together to warm it up.

Once the oil is melted, it can be rubbed directly onto the skin.  As with every beauty product, coconut oil is not for everybody.  Those who experience allergies or skin irritation should discontinue use immediately.

Applying coconut oil to the skin is a simple process.  All one needs to do is massage the oil directly onto the scalp.  Once this is done, the hair should be left alone for at least a day.  When enough time has passed, women can wash the oil out of their hair.  The end result is that the hair will be shiny and strong.  Due to the anti-fungal properties of lauric acid, using coconut oil will also eliminate dandruff and scalp rashes.

Consumers who want to try coconut oil should look for organic “virgin” products.  These products are desirable as pure coconut oil produces the best results.  Those who are reluctant to rub pure oil onto their skin may want to try a more traditional coconut oil moisturizer.

The olive tree originates from Asia.  However, nowadays this plant is sourced from Mediterranean countries.  Olive oil is created by harvesting olives, pitting them and grinding them to a pulp.  The juice is then removed from the olive and finally the water is separated from the oil.

There are a number of different types of olive oil on the market.  Experts have discovered that oils with minimal processing have more nutrients.  For this reason, extra virgin olive oil has the best aroma and flavor.

Olive oil has many beneficial properties.  As a food product, it promotes good cholesterol and reduces bad cholesterol.  The oil is loaded with nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants.  All of these items improve the immune system and help the body fight off illness.

This oil is also used as a natural beauty product.  The nourishing properties of this oil reduce and repair any damage done to the hair.  Regular use of olive oil for hair will improve the overall health of the hair.  Listed below are some additional benefits of using olive oil in hair.

-  The condition of the hair will improve.
-  The oil will infuse moisture into the scalp.  This will reduce skin flakes and dandruff.
-  The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of the oil make it ideal for the treatment of dandruff and head lice.
-  A reduction in split ends and breakage.
-  Flyaway hairs will be smoothed out.
-  The hair will be more manageable.
-  The oil can treat dry hair ad give it a natural shine.
-  Olive oil can aid hair growth and prevent hair loss.

Where to Get Olive Oil

This oil can be purchased at the supermarket.  Consumers can also buy it online if they are looking for a specific brand.

Applying the oil to the hair is a simple process.  All one needs to do is place a dollop on oil on the scalp and rub it in.  Many people like to massage the oil in as they believe massage stimulates the roots of the hair.  Once the oil has been applied, it can be left on the hair for a few hours.  The oil can then be washed out in the shower.

Some women are reluctant to put oil on their skin and hair.  People in this situation can buy beauty products with olive oil in them.  That being said, using actual oil will give the best results. Check out our home page at www.juniperdesert.com

We live in a world that is full of chemicals that harm the human body and the skin on a daily basis. This poses a threat to us all. One way to fight back and reclaim beautiful skin is to use natural remedies for what ails the skin. Unfortunately many of the skin care products on the market do aim to heal one ailment but the chemicals in these products can actually be bad for the skin. This is especially true for those who suffer from acne. Natural acne remedies are becoming increasingly popular as a result.

When using natural remedies for acne such as Calendula Salve acne disappears and beautiful vibrant skin appears. Calendula Salve contains numerous carotenoids that have a powerful ability to eradicate acne and offer other benefits. Not only is Calendula Salve one of the best acne treatments, it also treats rashes, stretch-marks, warts, diaper rash, eczema, psoriasis, and bug bites. It would be difficult to find another natural skin care treatment that works such wonders on so many skin problems.

Calendula originates from the Marigold plant which is botanically named Calendula Officinalis. This beautiful little flower has been used for centuries to provide relief to the skin. When searching for the best acne treatment one could not go wrong using this powerful antioxidant salve. Calendula Salve is one of the absolute best acne skin careproducts because of the fact that it contains properties that have been proven to be strong and provide quick relief.

Out of all the pimple remedies Calendula is favored by many for its  anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and immunostimulating properties. Really it is quite amazing when considering all of the benefits this inexpensive salve offers. It not only provides relief of many symptoms it also repairs the skins cells. This helps prevent scars such as pock marks, enlarged pores, and it can also help prevent wrinkles by stimulating collagen production.

By increasing the blood flow to the skin Calendula improves the rate at which skin cells reproduce and stay smooth. Staying vibrant with a youthful appearance is the goal of just about every soul on the planet. After all, who wants a scarred up face and wrinkles that tell the tale of our true age? Using natural skin care products will increase the longevity of a youthful appearance. Products such as Calendula can often be combined with other natural skin care remedies to produce astounding results that are lasting.

Some people combine special skin care cleansers and natural moisturizers along with using Calendula Salve. Considering the intense strength of this wonder salve it can be used as an acne spot treatment for the occasional outbreak. Most people who have tried numerous other products rate the Calendula Salve as being the best acne spot treatment. This is because the powerful ingredients go to work immediately and dry up pimples while promoting healing of the skin cells. Within just a few applications this salve works wonders that are visible and beneficial.

Adding Calendula Salve and other proven natural skin care products to a skin care regime always produces desirable results. Those who have committed to ditch the box store remedies and try Calendula Salve and other natural products have nothing but excellent things to say about the results. It stands to reason that using natural products will almost always be better for the skin than a product composed of man made chemicals. Some of the chemicals used in certain formulas are absolutely terrible for the skin and are no longer considered the best treatment for acne.

A fine example of this is acne products that actually work on pimples, but they dry out the skin and cause rash and redness. These man made chemical containing products can also induce the over production of oils and create another acne break out. The absolute best way to approach skin care is to consider the benefits of natural products such as Calendula and compare them to the benefits of products containing man made chemicals. The results are nearly shocking, which is why so many people love making the switch to natural products and are enjoying healthy acne free vibrant skin.

Olive Oil is very good for your skin.

The 5 MUSTS

of Olive Oil for sexier skin.

A good olive oil for skin care can provide daily moisture, UV protection and cell regeneration. In addition, Olive oil is a natural, deeply penetrating moisturizer that contains a wide variety of antioxidants not found in other oils.

For instance, high grade Olive Oil has oleic acid, carotenoids, oleuropein, and vitamin E which is absorbed and used by our skin. Oleic acid helps to soften the skin, vitamin E improves the elasticity of the skin, and carotenoids protect your DNA and RNA.

Yes, that’s right – olive oil has been found to reduce oxygen damage to DNA and RNA, which is a factor in preventing cancer, skin damage and signs of aging! Studies on mice have shown that application of olive oil immediately following exposure to UVB rays had a preventive effect on the formation of tumors and skin cancer.

How do you choose the right oil?

#1 NEVER BUY FROM THE GROCERY STORE

Olive Oil purchased at the grocery store has a few draw backs, the first being purity. It’s usually a blended oil, consisting of virgin olive oil blended with lower-quality refined olive oil. It depends on the brand and the blend as to the quality and the price. Blended = Not For Skin!
Words like ‘pure’ ‘light’ and ‘blended’ have appeared on bottles to confuse the consumer into not knowing how to select the highest grade oil for their purpose. But we’re committed to presenting products that meet the Juniper Desert ™ standard. By using our 4-point checklist you can be sure the olive oil you’re getting is the oil you need for healthy skin!

#2 COLD PRESSED IS BEST

Cold pressed or first pressed oil has higher levels of polyphenols (potent antioxidants) due to the fact that no heat or solvents were used when processing the olives. Heat destroys delicate chemicals and properties, oils that are cold-pressed retain more nutrients and undergo less degradation.

#3 CHOOSE THE RIGHT GRADE

Virgin or extra virgin olive oil? Virgin may be preferable to extra-virgin due to higher amounts of oleic acid.
Extra-virgin olive oil is from the first pressing of the olives. It contains no more than 0.8% acidity, and is judged to have a superior taste. There can be no refined oil in extra-virgin olive oil. Don’t use it on your skin, use it on your salads.
Virgin olive oil has not undergone any refinement; however, it has a higher acidity content (1-4%) than extra virgin olive oil so it retains only some of its natural aromas and flavors. This is one of the key elements of topical Olive Oil, but it still needs a little more.

#4 KEEP IT DARK

Olive Oil is plant based, and will therefore traces of Chlorophyl in it. That Chlorophyl will being oxidation within the Olive Oil when its exposed to light. Oxidation ruins Olive Oil, and light causes oxidation, so never buy Olive Oil that comes in a clear container, its just been sitting on a shelf degrading, and losing all of its benefits.

#5 EASY APPLICATION

Pouring Olive Oil over your head in the shower is one thing, but what about when you are out in public? Or what if you are at the beach, and just need a quick application. Choose an Olive Oil that meets all the the Juniper Desert Criteria AND is easy to apply. Get an Olive Oil that comes with a spray on applicator.

WHERE DO I GET OLIVE OIL LIKE THAT?

Lucky for you we’ve taken the time to do Olive Oil right. Our Juniper Desert Liquid Gold Olive Oil meets every criteria in the 5 point checklist.

    • Its not blended or light Olive Oil, its pure, nothing but the best for your skin!

    • Our Olive Oil is cold pressed, for maximum potency

    • We only use the highest grade Turkish Virgin Olive Oil

    • Our Olive Oil comes in a protective aluminum bottle, light will never break it down.

What does it mean to exfoliate? ‘To Strip of Leaves’

To exfoliate literally means “to strip of leaves” in Latin. It means that just like trees shed their bark, we shed our skin cells outward. The objective of exfoliation is to remove the dead, dull layers of cells and reveal the finer, more translucent tissue underneath.

We are constantly generating more skin, the average human generates a new layer of skin every two to four weeks! At the end of the cycle, the old, dead cells on the surface are shed. You can improve your complexion tremendously by exfoliating and sloughing off the old, dead skin cells. If the old, dead skin cells are not removed, they can clog  pores, and build up around hair follicles causing bumps and rashes.

There are two main methods of exfoliation:

Chemical Exfoliation- the use of facial scrubs that contain either beta or alpha hydroxy acids including salicylic acid, citric acid and glycolic acid. These acids break down the dead surface skin cells making it easier for them to peel or slough off, and thereby reveal smoother, refined skin.

Manual Exfoliation – one of the most common methods, it is a process in which the skin is scrubbed manually to remove dull surface layers. The scrubbing process varies based on what part of the body you are exfoliating and what your exfoliating with. For example salts, sugars, or sands can all be used as scrubs or you could also use a bristle brush, pumice stones, loofahs, salt crystals, sponges or brushes. These are usually rubbed gently onto the skin in a circular motion, effectively removing the oldest layer of skin on the face and body.

Regular exfoliation keeps skin healthy by encouraging skin regeneration and the growth of new skin cells. It also allows serums and other products to penetrate deeper, giving you better results from all those products as well. To reap the full benefits of exfoliation, it is recommended that skin be exfoliated about twice a week.

HOW TO EXFOLIATE

Items You Need:

1. Before stepping into the shower, brush your dry skin with your body brush. This will help remove the loose skin and prepare it for the exfoliating process.

2. Get into the shower or steam room and wet your body from head to toe.

3.  Apply your exfoliating scrub. Begin scrubbing your body in a circular motion starting with the bottoms of your feet and working your way up. When you reach the bikini area, don’t scrub too hard because the skin is very sensitive. Be gentle on your face, particularly around your eyes and mouth. Don’t forget about your hands, you want them to be soft and smooth too!

4. Rinse your body, follow by a blast of the coldest water you can stand.

5. Pat yourself dry with a microfiber towel (cotton towels are rough in texture on the microscopic level, it is like drying silk with Velcro.).

6. While still in a steamy room, apply a moisturizing skin serum all over. Skin serums that contain omega oils or lavender are the best.

Try using a scrub with a hydrating oil base like juniper desert’s brown sugar scrub. Use body moisturizer once a day.

  • If your feet are rough and callused use a pumice stone. If your feet are extremely rough, soak them in a basin of warm water mixed with a cup of milk (milk has enzymes that help break down dead skin cells; sugars do too.) for 30 minutes before getting into the shower.
  • Don’t exfoliate your skin if you are sunburned or have any open cuts or wounds.

René-Maurice Gattefossé – Father of Aromatherapy and inventor of the word itself!

A famous French chemist and scholar, he discovered the virtues of the essential oil of lavender in 1910. Gattefosse was working in the laboratories of the cosmetics firm owned and named after his family. It is said that he badly burned his hand during an experiment and plunged his hand into the nearest tub of liquid which just happened to be lavender essential oil. He was later amazed at how quickly his burn healed and with very little scarring. This started a fascination with essential oils and inspired him to experiment with them during the First World War on soldiers in military hospitals. He used oils of lavender, thyme, lemon and clove for their antiseptic properties. Gattefosse noted an increase in the rate of healing in wounds treated with essential oils and that the oils seemed to be free from the disadvantages present with other antiseptic agents in use at that time.

How To Use Lavender For Burns:

1. Gently clean affected area.

2. Dab lavender oil on skin with cotton or simply use lavender salve.

3. Allow to dry, bandage if needed.

4. Repeat at least once per day until healed to prevent scarring.

When you want to have beautiful hair you must follow and maintain high standards of care. There are many habits we can develop to ensure the health of our hair, the most important thing you can do for your hair is getting the PROPER NUTRITION! Eat nutritious foods and take a multivitamin to supplement your diet if needed. With that being said, here are our secrets that aren’t so secret. The trick is to follow instructions very well.

Conditioning: When it comes to deciding on what kind of conditioner to use choose the one that is right for the job. Opt for an oil-based conditioning rinse; it’s lightweight and extremely restorative. Snag one with great aromatherapy like Legend Has It for amazing shower experiences and great hair.

Oils: Remember that when you are shampooing you are stripping your hair of all its natural oils. To avoid drying out your hair and scalp you need to put natural oils back into your hair, but getting the right balance is important. Make sure to thoroughly rinse hair and then rinse again to avoid any excess. You should also consider an apple-cider vinegar rinse at home to complete your rinse.

Washing: When you wash your hair it is important to massage the scalp in circular motions to increase blood-flow. More blood-flow brings more nutrients to the scalp and hair. If your shampoo is oil rich you may be able to either skip a heavy conditioner or opt for a light, conditioning rinse. A great shampoo that is very oil rich and restorative is Oasis shampoo. Remember, if you want healthy hair go for oil based shampoos instead of their more bubbly cousins which are harsh on hair. Juniper Desert’s products are great for restoring a natural balance with a dose of nutrients.

Stimulating the Scalp: Stimulating the scalp is important because that is where the health of your hair is determined, the better the blood-flow the more nutrients your hair will have access to as it grows. There are many ways to stimulate the scalp and they can all be used in unison or combinations, they are: manually massaging the roots and scalp with finger-tips, any kind of mint will also leave a fresh, tingling feeling; and combing or brushing hair correctly.

The hair cuticle surrounds the hair shaft and protects it from daily abusers like wind, sun and pollution. If the cuticle is smooth your hair will be extremely shiny, and healthy looking. The stronger the cuticle is the easier it is to keep it smooth and the better it protects the hair shaft, preventing dreadful split ends and dullness. To strengthen the hair cuticle you must stop doing things that damage hair and as well as add the nutrients your hair needs, doing both at the same time will more than double the results. Do make sure to replace your hair’s natural moisture after cleansing. Oils with more nutrients like fish oil will help build the cuticle. Click here for conditioner with fish oil.

Avoiding Damage: Avoiding damaging the hair cuticle is a crucial part of shiny, healthy hair. Stop drying hair with cotton towels, this alone will change your hair, use a microfiber one instead. Remember to only dry hair on LOW heat, you are probably burning your hair if you aren’t already doing this. When brushing hair hold a handful at a time and work from center to ends, then scalp to center; slow and methodical is the game. Gently tease the knots out instead of ripping through them.  And avoid extreme sun and wind damage- protect hair in a bun, braid or scarf, even at night in bed.

Products: There are so many natural oils and vitamins that improve the look and overall health of hair. Lavender has been used since ancient times and it has an extremely calming aroma. Another oil that is great for hair is juniper berry oil. Used by ancient Greeks and Egyptians, juniper berry oil is astringent and clears oil build-up on hair and the scalp. It has also been known for treating and preventing baldness, dermatitis, and eczema. Long story short, juniper berry oil will detoxify each strand of hair. Click here for conditioner with juniper berry oil.

Healthy Hair Tips:

1.Get a wide-tooth comb and use it in the shower to stimulate scalp and distribute rinses and conditioners evenly throughout. Also use a wide-tooth comb if your hair is extra curly or at all frizzy. Always use a wide-tooth comb on wet hair.

2. Get a microfiber long-hair towel. They are $20 at Bed Bath & Beyond. Use it, you will not be sorry. Dry your hair with this towel only.

3. Brush hair from roots to ends nightly. This distributes natural oils throughout the shaft and gives hair a healthy sheen.

4. Always rinse out conditioner thoroughly and use an apple-cider vinegar rinse as the last step every time you wash your hair, especially if you have very long/thick hair. Rinse with a blast of cold water to seal the cuticle and promote shine.

5. Protect hair from sun, wind and pollution with a scarf or hat.

6. Change your part to boost body and volume.

7. To fix hat-head, bend over and shake your head a few times. Then run fingers through hair to add volume. For even more body, mist a natural-bristle brush with hairspray, bend over and brush lightly from underneath
